Group exhibition with works by Hanna Roeckle and others

Kunstmuseum Appenzell andKunsthalle Ziegelhütte have been showing special exhibitions on international and regional art since 1998. Exhibitions from the museum’s own art collection are generated at regular intervals, focusing on various aspects of the two Appenzell painters Carl August Liner and Carl Walter Liner, classical modernism and contemporary art. The art collection of the Heinrich Gebert Kulturstiftung Appenzell has been significantly expanded through purchases and donations. In order to present, celebrate, but also question this expansion, Roland Scotti, in collaboration with the artists Regula Engeler and Jochen Heilek, who live in Bühler (AR), offers a journey through a cross-universe in all the rooms of the institution, in which two exhibitions exist and communicate with each other: “der welt viel tiefe welten” and “collecting revisited”.

The Swiss artist Thomas Ritz is showing new works from the past three years in the exhibition entitled Bruchlinien. Landscape is a core theme in Ritz’s oeuvre. Water, the primeval matter of life, is often a central carrier of meaning in the paintings. Thus, the pictorial worlds in his current show mainly show water landscapes – rivers or lakes, coastal stretches, ocean depths and distant sea horizons.

Swiss artist Carlo Borer has created an extraordinary overall concept for the two exhibition rooms of the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger. Large sculptures will be on display and an imposing landscape installation, all of which already very impressive at first sight. However, on second glance, they reveal a very pressing, current topical issue: overpopulation and the resulting massive destruction of our living space. Titled SLEEPING WITH THE GODS, Carlo Borer takes us into a partially colourful, partially bleak world, similar to how we experience reality.
