Geboren 1923 in Paris, Frankreich. Gestorben 1999 in Paris, Frankreich.

Édouard Boubat begann 1946 als Reaktion auf die Schrecken des Zweiten Weltkriegs zu fotografieren. Er stellte das Leben einfacher Menschen in den Mittelpunkt und vermied alles Effekthascherische und Sensationalistische. Boubat gehört mit Lucien Clergue, Jean Dieuzaide, Robert Doisneau, Janine Niepce, Willy Ronis, Sabine Weiss einer fotografischen Richtung an, die als photographie humaniste bezeichnet wird. Wie die genannten Fotografen gehörte auch Boubat der Fotoagentur Rapho an, die nach dem Krieg neu gegründet wurde. Während fünfzehn Jahren war er als Fotojournalist für die Zeitschrift Réalités tätig. Der Dichter Jacques Prévert nannte Boubat einen „Berichterstatter des Friedens“.

Boubats Arbeiten befinden sich in internationalen Sammlungen, wie u.a. im Musée d’Art Moderne, Paris, Frankreich; Centre Pompidou, Paris, Frankreich; Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, USA.
