Floris M. Neusüss was one of the main representatives of experimental photography in Germany. The focus of his creations was the photogram with all its variations. Floris Neusüss dealt with the relationship between photographic image, space and human figure in his work under increasingly media-reflexive conditions. The technical process of the photogram plays a central role in this, and Neusüss has dealt with it intensively, both practically and theoretically. In 1971 he was appointed professor at the University of Kassel, and in 1972 the Fotoforum Kassel was founded, which soon developed into a lively place for the examination of the medium of photography. Neusüss’s own image production during this period must also be seen against the background of documenta V, 1972, which increasingly included photography and thus gave considerable impetus to the contemporary discourse on the medium in the context of art.
