Born in 1947 in New York, USA. Lives and works in Seattle, USA.
Jock Sturges is an American photographer known for his large-format nude photographs of young people. His black and white images mainly portray girls and young women on nude beaches in the United States and France. The explicit visual language of the photographer has repeatedly led to controversy. Sturges remained steadfast, however, and photographed the adolescents – often together with their families – for years.
Sturges’ works are represented in international collections such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA; International Center of Photography, New York, USA; Denver Museum of Art, USA; Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, Switzerland; Museum Ludwig, Berlin, Germany; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.
