Born in 1965 in Ahwaz, Iran. Lives and works in New York, USA.
Samira Abbassy was born in south-western Iran. As a child, she moved with her family to Britain, where she was educated and studied painting. Her work draws on the visual traditions of both Middle-Eastern and Western art to investigate their shared mythology and iconography as well as her personal identity.
Abbassy’s works are represented in international collections such as The British Museum, London, UK; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA; The Burger Collection Hong Kong, Zurich; The Donald Rubin Foundation, New York, USA; Omid Foundation, Iran.
