Viveek Sharma

(IND)

Born 1968 in Mumbai, India. Lives and works in Mumbai, India and Zurich, Switzerland.

At first glance, the visual worlds that Viveek Sharma opens up to us could hardly be more different or contradictory. Here the Indian deities, there the American Western heroes, here a blue cloudy sky, there the hell of the slums, here the Indian upper class lady, there Mahatma Ghandi. The way the motifs are presented also lives from the contrasts. Black and white and color collide as much as close-up and panorama, photorealistic fine painting alternates with sketchy drawing techniques. Sometimes the opposites collide with full force within a picture, but sometimes he leaves the individual pictures largely homogeneous in their atmosphere, in order to stage them all the more strongly as opposites to other pictures.
