Brexit Bedrooms

On April , 8Fabian & Claude Walter Galerie is hosting the book launch of the publication Brexit Bedrooms, published by primitivo. The book is accompanying the photographs of the series Brexit Bedrooms by Tatjana Rüegsegger, which are currently on view in the exhibition BEDS | Bedtime Stories in Photography.

In 2019, the consequences of Brexit for musicians were not yet foreseeable. The Brexit Bedrooms project started with the idea of documenting the challenges for the music industry. The pandemic allowed a preview of what Brexit might look like: Tours were cancelled and salaries dropped. During the exit negotiations in spring 2021, it became clear that the government will have no regard for touring musicians and their crews. In the future, visas for all EU and Schengen countries must be applied for individually. Especially for musicians and bands at the beginning of their career, but also for already well-known names, the situation is frustrating and triggers fears. 26 musicians welcomed Rüegsegger in their personal space, had themselves portrayed in their bedroom and talked very openly about their frustrations, their fears and thoughts on Brexit. The series and the accompanying book aim to shed light on the drastic consequences for the music industry.
